The Master speaks!
As Bruce Lee said "I don't fear the man that has practised 10,000 kicks. I fear the man that has practised the same kick 10,000 times."
It's a shame most salesfolk don't adopt this mindset.
I laugh all the time at the Zoom backdrop to many a Linkedin guru or influencer nowadays, often it is a book shelf with appropriately placed titles and covers viewable to the viewer.
It's saying "Hey look at how well read I am on sales" and in a lot of cases "Check out my book!"
I often ask sales guys; "How many of those books that you have claimed to have read on sales have you actually committed to memory and mastered the technques therein so they are now a habit"
Very, very few can say they have.
So, what's the bloody point in reading them?
Seriously?
If you got good at just one sales methodology, no matter how dodgy it is, you'd probably be successful and have a much easier life.
The problem is that many sales people are looking for an easier life through a really simple solution. The "I can read myself good." strategy,
Nonsense.
How many of you read the highway code to master the skill of driving?
Read a flight manual and learned to land?
The adult human brain only learns two ways - subliminally and by repetition.
REPETITION.
That means doing the same very basic things over and over and over and over until you get really, really good.
You can't read that in a book.
Unfortunately, repetition requires hand holding and correcting technique by someone competent at it. You can't do bad repetition and assume good outcomes. You have to do good repetition. You need to be coached and mentored.
A handful of folk can self motivate and critique to be competent to do this alone. Most of us need support.
